It's my birthday!

Well, it's my birthday. 25 years old. A quarter century. Damn. I feel old. I don't know what I'm going to do today, partly because I wrote this last week. I would be at a LAN in Boston, but Duke is an idiot and didn't tell me about it until last week. Would have been nice to know since I took off work. I have off from the morning of the 17th to the night of the 23rd, so that is nice.
Battlefield 2142 comes out on the 17th, so that will give some some time to play and gain some ranks and unlocks. Still not totally decided which route to go first - Assault or Engineer. Either way, should be fun.

The Wild and the Wolves are both off the 22nd, and the Vikings are playing in Seattle, so I won't be able to go to a game. I don't really remember any of my other 24 birthdays. 1991 was Game 3 of the World Series, the Braves beat the Twins 5-4 in the 12th inning. 2001-2003 I was in the Army and deployed somewhere. 2004-2005 I don't remember, even though I was going to school here at the U. I am bored as hell right now so I went and looked up what has happened on the best day of the year before. Here it is:

  • 4004 BCE - The day the universe was created according to British scientist James Ussher after using the Bible's chronology to calculate the date.
  • 1746 - The College of New Jersey (later renamed Princeton University) receives its charter.
  • 1797 - One thousand meters (3,200 feet) above Paris, Andre-Jacques Garnerin makes the first recorded parachute jump.
  • 1844 - The Great Anticipation: Millerites, followers of William Miller, anticipated the end of the world in conjunction with the Second Advent of Christ. The following day became known as the Great Disappointment.
  • 1926 - J. Gordon Whitehead sucker punches magician Harry Houdini in the stomach in Montreal.
  • 1934 - In East Liverpool, Ohio, notorious bank robber Pretty Boy Floyd is shot and killed by Federal Bureau of Investigation agents.
  • 1957 - Vietnam War: First United States casualties in Vietnam.
  • 1962 - Cuban Missile Crisis: US President John F. Kennedy announces that American spy planes have discovered Soviet nuclear weapons in Cuba, and that he has ordered a naval "quarantine" of the island nation.
  • 1975 - Carlton Fisk of the Boston Red Sox hits a home run to win Game 6 of the 1975 World Series against the Cincinnati Reds.
  • 1976 - Red Dye No. 4 is banned by the US Food and Drug Administration after it is discovered that it causes tumors in the bladders of dogs. The dye is still used in Canada.
  • 1989 - Jacob Wetterling is abducted in St. Joseph, Minnesota.
  • 2002 - Internet users declare this day as the official Caps Lock Day.

And here are some other famous people born today:

  • 1903 - Curly Howard, American actor and comedian, member of the Three Stooges (d. 1952)
  • 1907 - Jimmie Foxx, baseball player (d. 1967)
  • 1913 - Robert Capa, American war photographer (born in Hungary)(d. 1954)
  • 1938 - Christopher Lloyd, American actor
  • 1949 - Arsène Wenger, French football manager (Manages The Arsenal)
  • 1952 - Jeff Goldblum, American actor
  • 1963 - Brian Boitano, American figure skater (OMG I was born on the same day as Brian Boitano! :o)
  • 1973 - Ichiro Suzuki, Japanese baseball player
  • 1974 - Miroslav Satan, Slovakian hockey player

That's all I have today, I'll try and post an update sometime soon.
