My new build is almost complete, only thing I am waiting on is a new CPU cooler. I originally bought a Noctua NH-U12P but while installing it one of the screws to hold it down broke off. I just found a Prolimatech Megahalems at CrazyPC though so I am waiting on that to get here so I can swap out the stock Intel cooler I have installed at the moment. The new build is as follows:

Case: Cooler Master ATCS 840

Power Supply: Enermax Revolution 85+ 1050W

Motherboard: EVGA X58 3x SLI

CPU: Intel Core i7 920

RAM: 6GB Corsair Dominator

Video Card: EVGA GTX 285

Sound Card: HT Omega Claro Halo

Hard Drives:2x WD Caviar 1TB

Optical Drives:LG BluRay

Monitor: Samsung T240HD

Usually when I build a new PC I go with an Asus motherboard, BFG video card, and OCZ RAM, but decided to go a different route this time. I’ve heard good things about EVGA so decided to try them out, and the Corsair RAM has been getting extremely good reviews. Hopefully they can live up to what I am used to. I’m not sure about the sound card yet, as their drivers do not work with Windows 7 yet, so I am just using the onboard sound for now. The Claro Halo is a 2.1 soundcard with an onboard amp for headphones, so I am hoping it makes my HD650′s sound better than I am used to.

Everything is put together and running well, I haven’t done any benchmarks on it or overclocked it yet because I am using the stock cooler until the Megahalems gets delivered. The Cooler Master ATCS is absolutely huge and looks great. It was very easy to put everything together inside. It was also a lot quieter than I thought it would be. I couldn’t hear it at all when my Shuttle was on next to it and could hear my other desktop running downstairs louder than the new build as well. The Samsung T240HD looks great, 24″ widescreen with a native resolution of 1900×1200 and it has a TV Tuner built in. I played a little Left 4 Dead and it looked good, steady 60fps with no ghosting or tearing.

Like all my other PC’s the new build is named after a Quake 3 character, this time I went with Anarki to join the .quake network I run at home along with Phobos, Xaero, Orbb, Klesk/Flisk, Visor, Wrack, and Tank Jr.

That’s all I have for now, hopefully this week the new cooler comes in and I can run some benchmarks. I also got a few LED lights and a fan controller from CrazyPC as well to finish the build.

It was about time to upgrade my tower, but with the strafeRight LAN coming up, I decided to build a Shuttle to take instead of my Thinkpad. Spending a week gaming on the laptop would be OK, but I’d much rather have something a little more powerful. Here is the rundown of what I got:

Shuttle SX38P2-Pro

BFG Nvidia GeForce 8800GTS (G92) 512MB

4GB OCZ Vista Upgrade RAM – DDR2 800 PC2 6400

Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 – 2.66GHz

2x WD Caviar 250GB Hard Drives

SAMSUNG 20X DVD±R Burner SATA

Vista Home Premium 32bit

And here are some pics of phobos, the newest addition to .quake (All my computers are named after Quake3 characters – xaero, klesk, visor, orbb, tankjr – and .quake is the domain I use for my network.)

LAS VEGAS – January 8, 2006 – Razer, a leading manufacturer of high-end precision gaming and lifestyle electronics peripherals, will unveil and provide hands-on demonstrations of the new Razer Mako™ 2.1 speaker system, Razer DeathAdder™ infrared sensor mouse, Razer Pro|Type™ iPod docking keyboard and Razer Pro|Click Mobile™ Bluetooth notebook mouse at CES, January 8 – 11, 2007, at the Las Vegas Convention Center in South Hall, Booth 35160.

“Razer’s new line of products being showcased at CES, which include the Razer Mako, Razer DeathAdder, Razer Pro|Type and the Razer Pro|Click Mobile, truly reflect the future of interactive entertainment,” says Robert “Razerguy” Krakoff, president, Razer Group. “We are proud to say that this new product lineup continues to express the originality of our ideas by aggressively pursuing what consumers want in design and engineering. We did not get to where we are today by ‘playing by the rules’; we arrived here by setting them.”

Razer, the creators of the Razer Barracuda gaming audio system, is proud to introduce the Razer Mako 2.1 THX Certified bi-amplified multimedia speaker system at CES 2007. The Razer Mako represents a groundbreaking new desktop speaker design from the sound engineers and scientists of gaming industry leader Razer and audio industry pioneer THX Ltd. The Razer Mako 2.1 is the first desktop speaker system to incorporate THX Ground Plane™ and THX Slot Speaker™ technologies, which raise the bar for acoustic fidelity and performance in the desktop category. Whether the listener has connected their desktop computer, gaming console, television, Razer Unveils New Electronic Peripherals at CES Page 2 CD deck, or portable MP3 player as the Razer Mako’s input source, the system will deliver sonic presentations that are the best-in-class for any 2.1 desktop speaker system.

“The advantage of multimedia and PC speakers is that they can be conveniently positioned on desktops and bookshelves. But, sound reflecting from desktop surfaces interferes with the direct sound, creating uneven frequency response at the listener’s ear level,” said Laurie Fincham, chief scientist at THX. “The Razer Mako 2.1 is the first multimedia speaker system designed from the ground up to provide optimal performance on the desktop. The THX Ground Plane and Slot Speaker technologies ensure the speaker drivers are very close to the desktop surface, doubling the output and delivering smooth and even response at all frequencies.”

Features:

THX Certified for premium sound quality and performance

Patented THX Ground Plane and THX Slot Speaker downward-firing mid-range drivers and tweeters design which creates a spacious soundstage that turns any desktop surface from an acoustic hindrance into an integral part of the soundstage.

True, bi-amplified satellites with two channels of 50W with full digital DSP control.

An overall system frequency range of 30-20,000 Hz and Axial Response Limits of +/- 2dB at 40-18,000 Hz (-6dB at 30 and 20,000Hz)

Sunnyvale, CA—November 20, 2006
OCZ Technology Group, a worldwide leader in innovative, ultra-high performance and high reliability memory, today unveiled the OCZ PC2-9200 FlexXLC 2x1GB Kit, a revolutionary new memory solution that offers unprecedented speed, signal integrity, and thermal management. These new modules feature the new OCZ FlexXLC heatsink that delivers superior heat dissipation via a hybrid copper and aluminum design alterable between passive air or water cooling. As the World’s fastest DDR2, the PC2-9200, in combination with the innovative FlexXLC technology, is considerably the most ground-breaking and unique memory product existing today.

The latest generation of DDR2 modules by far exceeds the original projections of the DDR2 design triggering a need for amendments in the operating specifications. For example, operating voltage, originally defined as 1.8V, has increased to typically 2.1V or even higher to reach 1GHz+ frequencies. In the case of a DDR2 module running at 1200 MHz and 2.1V supply voltage, this entails that the power consumption increases many times over that of the same module running at 400 MHz and 1.8V supply voltage. Power consumption, in turn, directly translates into heat dissipation.

The extreme increase in power consumption without substantial changes in form factor increases the power and heat density, which requires serious countermeasures to maintain the thermal balance necessary for signal integrity and high performance.

Thanks to OCZ’s FlexXLC (Xtreme Liquid Convention) heat management solution, the OCZ PC2-9200 operates at extreme speeds of 1150MHz without the high temperatures that inhibit or damage the module’s ICs. The FlexXLC module was engineered with a unique “flexible” design which gives enthusiasts the option to run the modules passively or water cooled via the integrated liquid injection system. The concurrent use of both technologies (water-cooling) promotes maximum heat dissipation.

"Water-cooling is more efficient than air cooling, yet standard memory kits are usually not available in off-the-shelf water-cooled configurations," commented Dr. Michael Schuette, VP of Technology Development at OCZ Technology Group. "The new OCZ FlexXLC series—featuring an exciting, novel hybrid water and air cooler based on OCZ’s embedded copper liquid injection system—pushes thermal management of memory modules one step further to keep up with the ever-increasing frequency demands. Moreover, the FlexXLC modules seamlessly co-migrate with any system upgrade to liquid cooling."

Among these thermal management advantages, the PC2-9200 FlexXLC also implements a new 8-layer PCB with thermally conductive power and ground planes to guide heat away from the interconnects with the memory ICs. This facilitates less “crosstalk,” consequently enhancing the module’s total signal integrity.
